JUAN AGUILERA
Dr. Aguilera is a physician-scientist serving as the Director of Translational Environmental and Climate Health at the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy & Asthma Research. His research focuses on understanding the impact of air pollution and wildfire smoke on immune health in at-risk populations such as children with asthma, pregnant women, and firefighters. His previous works have shown the negative effects of traffic-related air pollutants on physical activity in children with asthma as well as the associations of traffic and transportation-related variables with metabolic biomarkers in low-income populations from a border community.
He works with Dr. Kari Nadeau and other collaborative Stanford-affiliated faculty members on multiple interdisciplinary research for climate change, public health, immunology (allergy and asthma), wildfire, and COVID studies in underserved communities to increase awareness and education about health implications. They have worked together to implement and develop research projects to support with the priorities of time-critical health research with large multinational grants with partnerships amongst diverse groups bridging the gaps to lead multi-site clinical and non-clinical research networks within the United States and globally.
